On Wix you do not add the file at all: Wix generates and maintains an llms.txt automatically and serves it at [yourdomain.com]/llms.txt, replacing yourdomain.com with your actual domain. Your job is to check what it wrote about you and replace it with your own version if it falls short.
Why Wix is different
Wix is currently the only major platform with native llms.txt support, so every workaround you will find in older guides (uploading the file to the media manager, redirecting from /llms.txt) is obsolete. The catch is that the generated file is written by the platform from your site's content: site name, a summary of your content including blogs and stores, contact details, and a list of products with links. If any of that content is vague on your site, the file will be vague too.
The file you are publishing
The full format lives in our llms.txt guide. This is the file itself, from a sample outdoor gear store:
# Cedar and Pine Outfitters
> Cedar and Pine Outfitters sells outdoor apparel and camping gear from its Seattle storefront, shipping across the US. Runs an in-house tent repair service and publishes beginner backpacking guides.

Steps
- Look at what Wix made. Open [yourdomain.com]/llms.txt in a browser. If it loads, Wix is serving it; read the whole thing the way a model would, looking for wrong emphasis, missing pages, and stale products.
- Open the editor. In your site's dashboard go to SEO & GEO, scroll down to Tools and settings, and click Go to llms.txt. Click View File to see it.
- Replace it with yours. Click the More Actions dropdown, then Edit file, then Continue. Paste your curated version into the text field and click Save Changes. The moment you edit, the file stops updating automatically, so your version is preserved.
- Know your way back. If you ever want Wix's automatic version again, use Reset to Default in the same editor and automatic updates resume. If you would rather AI tools did not see the file at all, there is an opt-out: the toggle next to "Use your llms.txt file."
If the file does not load at your domain, check that your site is published on a connected custom domain with indexing enabled; the feature has been rolling out across accounts, so the SEO & GEO dashboard is the source of truth for whether it is live on your site.
The fundamentals
- •What goes in the file: your name, one-paragraph summary, and curated links with one-line descriptions, see our llms.txt guide
- •Crawler permissions live in robots.txt, never in llms.txt; on Wix that is a separate dashboard setting, see our robots.txt guide
- •The structured data behind the pages you link, see our product schema guide
A hypothetical example
Say you run a Wix site for a photography studio with a small print store. Wix's generated file lists every print in the store, in no particular order, and your "booking a session" page is buried. You edit the file in the SEO & GEO dashboard, cut the product dump down to your three best-selling collections, and put the booking page in its own section near the top. The file now reads the way you would pitch the studio in person. The lesson for Wix owners: the platform did the plumbing, but the curation is still a business decision only you can make.
What this guide does not cover
Whether to opt out of the file entirely (a strategic call, not a technical one). Keeping your hand-edited version current after major site changes, since editing stops automatic updates. Monitoring whether AI crawlers fetch the file or cite your site.
