# How to edit robots.txt on Wix for AI crawlers

Wix auto-generates robots.txt and gives you an editor for it. In your site dashboard go to SEO & GEO, scroll to Tools and settings, and click Robots.txt Editor. Click View File, add your directives in the text box under "This is your current file", then click Save Changes and Save.

## Why Wix is different

Wix's default file is fully open: every bot may crawl every page. AI crawler problems on Wix are almost never a block someone set. They are the absence of any explicit rules at all, which means nothing names the retrieval crawlers and nothing documents the intent.

The editor is free-form text appended to the generated file. There is no template language and no plugin. What you type is merged with Wix's generated content.

A Reset to Default button sits on the same screen and restores the open default. That makes experiments cheap: if an edit goes wrong, one click takes you back.

Wix's URL structure is fixed by the platform. Product pages, blog posts, bookings, and forums each live under their own path conventions, and you cannot rename the structure the way you can on WordPress. Scope any disallow rules to Wix's real paths, not to paths you wish existed.

## The steps, in order

1. Check what is served today. Open https://\[yourdomain.com\]/robots.txt in a browser, replacing yourdomain.com with your actual domain. On an untouched Wix site you will see the open default.

1. Open the editor. In your site dashboard go to SEO & GEO, scroll down to Tools and settings, and click Robots.txt Editor. Click View File.

1. Add the AI retrieval crawler groups in the text box under "This is your current file", before any broad rules:

```
User-agent: OAI-SearchBot
Allow: /
User-agent: ChatGPT-User
Allow: /
User-agent: Claude-SearchBot
Allow: /
User-agent: Claude-User
Allow: /
User-agent: PerplexityBot
Allow: /
User-agent: meta-webindexer
Allow: /
User-agent: bingbot
Allow: /
```

1. Click Save Changes, then Save. Reload https://\[yourdomain.com\]/robots.txt and confirm your groups are present.

1. If the file looks wrong afterward, use Reset to Default on the same screen to restore the open default, then re-add your rules more carefully.

### The fundamentals

Three things work the same on every platform:

- •What goes in an llms.txt file and where to publish it on Wix, see our [llms.txt guide](https://aizii.ai/learn/ai-search/how-to-write-a-good-llms-txt-file)
- •The product markup AI tools read on the page, see our [product schema guide](https://aizii.ai/learn/ai-search/how-to-add-product-schema-markup-for-ai-search)
- •The full crawler token reference and what each allow or block costs, see our [robots.txt guide](https://aizii.ai/learn/ai-search/how-to-write-robots-txt-for-ai-search)

### A hypothetical example

Say you run a florist site on Wix. You open the Robots.txt Editor for the first time and find the file wide open, which matches the default. You add the AI crawler allow groups and save. A scan later confirms the retrieval crawlers are named and allowed. The interesting part of the story is what did not happen: nothing was ever blocked, so the win was explicitness, not unblocking. On Wix, most robots.txt work is documenting intent that was previously assumed.

## What this guide does not cover

The file is only the declaration. If a bot manager or CDN blocks an AI crawler at the edge before it reads robots.txt, the file's rules do not matter. That edge check, plus ongoing monitoring for drift and the transaction layer that lets an agent complete a purchase, are separate work.
